Leave your car at The Polebarn and catch the train. In just 15 minutes you’ll arrive in the centre of Bath, a UNESCO World Heritage City. You’ll be able to enjoy the Roman Bath, the Thermae Spa, the city’s architecture or just while away the time in a café, bar or restaurant before hitting the shops and markets.
Made famous by the TV show Animal Park, Longleat House and Safari Park is a great day out for both adults and children. There’s so much to see and do. The house is magnificent and the grounds hold so much more than the safari park. It’s only 15 minutes driving from The Polebarn, once there you can decide whether you’re brave enough to take your car into the monkey enclosure!
National Trust members (and non-members) can enjoy The Courts Garden in nearby Holt, a perfectly formed English country garden is a real pleasure to visit.
Westwood Manor is on the outskirts of Trowbridge and is a small but delightful 15th century stone manor house.
Stourhead is certainly a jewel in the National Trust crown and only 30 minutes drive from The Polebarn. The garden, designed by Capability Brown, can be enjoyed and appreciated all year round.
Another Capability Brown garden is Prior Park on the edge of Bath. Its Palladian bridges and beautiful vistas are fitting of a grand 18th Century garden – check their website before visiting as they are encouraging ‘green travel’ (parking is disabled only).
Dryham Park is near Bath and is an impressive 17th Century Mansion and deer park. The deer roam freely amongst the trees and the views are spectacular.
Lacock Abbey and Fox Talbot Museum are 15 minutes driving from The Polebarn; Lacock village is picturesque and has been used as locations for filming costumes dramas.
Great Chalfeld Manor and Garden are also not far from here. The 15th century manor house has and Arts and Crafts style garden.

Bradford on Avon
Visit Bradford a small town and enjoy the architecture, walk along the canal, see the impressive Tithe Barn, find the river walk and sample the delights of the Victorian Tea Shope.
Canal Walks and Narrow Boat Hire
We are within walking distance of the canal in Trowbridge and Hilperton Marina, a popular destination for collecting boats for a holiday. Along the canal, Bradford on Avon can be easily reached and then Avoncliffe beyond it. In the other direction, heading towards Devizes is the spectacular Caen Hill Locks – a feat of canal engineering, 16 lock gates providing the solution to a very steep hill. There is a café/tea rooms and parking here.
The Polebarn has free garaged overnight storage available for both bicycles and motorbikes (by prior arrangement).
